Sen. Lawrence reappointed to the Maine-Canadian Legislative Advisory and the New England Eastern Canada Legislative commissions
AUGUSTA — Sen. Mark Lawrence, D-Eliot, has been reappointed to the Maine-Canadian Legislative Advisory Commission and the New England Eastern Canada Legislative Commission by Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash.
“The relationship between Maine and Canada is very important to the people and economy of southern York County,” said Sen. Lawrence. “We have common interests and goals. These appointments will allow me to be at the center of building on these strong relationships.”
The Maine-Canadian Legislative Advisory Commission operates to further cooperation between Maine and Canada, especially between their legislative bodies. Like the New England Eastern Canada Legislative Commission, it also fosters economic, cultural and educational exchanges between Maine and the Canadian provinces. The New England Eastern Canada Legislative Commission includes members from Maine as well as other neighboring states. Sen. Lawrence has previously served on both of these commissions. He speaks French, and he used to periodically travel to Canada before the COVID-19 pandemic.
