AUGUSTA — Earlier today, Sen. Mark Lawrence, D-Eliot, was sworn into the Maine Senate. Sen. Lawrence was elected to his seventh non-consecutive term in the Senate in November.

Gov. Janet Mills administered the oath of office to Sen. Lawrence and 34 of his Senate colleagues, all of whom have been elected to serve two-year terms. He represents the people of Senate District 35, which includes Eliot, Kittery, Ogunquit, South Berwick and York.

“I am excited to have once again been elected by the people of District 35 to represent them in the Maine State Senate,” said Sen. Lawrence. “Each new term in the Legislature brings new challenges that my colleagues and I must tackle head-on. I look forward to working with me fellow legislators as well as my constituents to pass meaningful legislation that benefits the good people of Maine.”

He was first elected to the Maine House of Representatives during his second year of law school, where he served from 1988 to 1992. Lawrence served as York County District Attorney from 2003 to 2010 before opening up a private practice in South Berwick.

The swearing-in ceremony was held in the Senate Chamber, and was attended by family and friends of the Senators, as well as the general public. A live stream of the event was made available to the general public, and can be viewed online at http://legislature.maine.gov/senate/.
