Sen. Lawrence to focus on protecting natural resources and expanding access to affordable health care this session
AUGUSTA — Sen. Mark Lawrence, D-Eliot, returned to Augusta on Wednesday for the start of the second regular session of the 129th Legislature. After speaking with constituents, he will continue to advocate for protecting our natural resources and sustainability efforts, as well as access to affordable health care.
“I am excited to get back to work this session,” said Sen. Lawrence. “We are continuing our efforts to protect Maine consumers and our pristine environment, as well as our work on making sure people have access to affordable health care, regardless of their background.”
During the second session, lawmakers will consider governor’s bills, carry-over bills and other bills deemed emergency in nature as outlined by the Maine Constitution. All new bills submitted for consideration must be approved by the bipartisan Legislative Council, which comprises legislative leadership in both the House and Senate. The statutory date of adjournment for the shorter second session is April 15.
Sen. Lawrence is serving his fifth nonconsecutive term in the Senate and has served two terms in the House. He also served as the President of the Maine Senate from 1998 to 2000. He serves as the Senate chair of the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee and on the Labor and Housing Committee.
