Sen. Mark Lawrence celebrated for perfect voting record on reproductive rights
AUGUSTA — Sen. Mark Lawrence, D-Eliot, earned a perfect score from Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund for votes to protect reproductive rights and improve access to fundamental health care. Sen. Lawrence is one of 20 senators to earn a perfect score for their 2025 voting record.
“With reproductive rights under attack here in Maine and across the nation, it’s important — now more than ever — to stand up for these fundamental freedoms and I’m proud to support measures to protect these rights,” said Sen. Lawrence. “Access to affordable reproductive care creates healthy communities, strengthens economic security and allows Maine people to thrive. As I continue my final term in the Senate, I will stand strong against any attempts to undermine or ban reproductive care.”
Planned Parenthood scored the votes of Maine legislators on 12 bills, including seven bills that would restrict access to abortion and reproductive care. This year, in the face of massive federal cuts, the Legislature invested $6 million in Maine’s family planning services network, which provides essential care for patients, including birth control, cancer screenings and testing and treatment of STIs, regardless of ability to pay. Sen. Lawrence also supported a new law that will protect prescribers of safe, effective medication abortion by allowing a provider to omit their name from prescription labels.
Every year since 2019, when Sen. Lawrence returned to the Maine Senate, he has earned a perfect voting score from Planned Parenthood, reflecting a strong commitment to defending the rights of Maine people, especially in the years since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated the nationwide right to abortion.
