Sen. Miramant bill would require cameras in ambulances
AUGUSTA — A bill by Sen. Dave Miramant, D-Camden, would require cameras when ambulances transport patients. Sen. Miramant’s bill, LD 159, An Act To Require Cameras in Ambulances When a Patient Is Being Transported, received a public hearing before the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee on Wednesday.
Sen. Miramant heard from constituents who were concerned about not only unequal treatment of patients in ambulances, but also misunderstandings of when technicians carry out their required duties.
To address these concerns, Sen. Miramant’s bill requires cameras in the back of ambulances when patients are being transported.
“We must guarantee the best possible care for patients being transported by ambulance, and cameras are a cheap way to improve ambulance transportation for both patients and technicians,” said Sen. Miramant. “Cameras help ensure patient safety, protect ambulance technicians from misunderstandings, and allow for review by medical personnel.”
The Health and Human Services Committee will hold a work session on Sen. Miramant’s bill prior to votes in the Maine House and Senate.
