AUGUSTA — On June 25, 2025, a bill to establish the Maine Life Science Innovation Center and develop Maine’s life science sectors, sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Teresa S. Pierce, D-Falmouth, was sent to the Governor’s desk by the Maine Senate.

Sen. Teresa S. Pierce

“Our state’s life science sectors are emerging at an exciting time. Whether its lobster-based skin care products, life-changing biomedical technology or precision medicine to cure cancer, industry leaders and I are thrilled with the potential to create Maine-based jobs and spur economic activity for our future,” said Sen. Pierce. “This Center will allow Maine to become regionally competitive among nearby states’ economies and attract new talent to live, work and raise a family in Maine, and I look forward to helping it become a hub for growth and opportunity in our life science sector.

LD 1643 will create the Maine Life Science Innovation Center to serve as a hub to develop a clear growth strategy, support collaboration and guide funding to spur business activity. In doing so, it will strengthen our economy, grow jobs and improve health outcomes for Mainers. This bill aims to take what Maine already does well in science, health and natural resources, and help it grow faster, in more parts of the state, with more benefits to Maine people.

LD 1643 now awaits the Governor’s signature.
