Sen. Tepler celebrated for perfect voting record on reproductive rights

AUGUSTA — Sen. Denise Tepler, D-Topsham, earned a perfect score from Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund for votes to protect reproductive rights and improve access to fundamental health care. Sen. Tepler is one of 20 senators to earn a perfect score for their 2025 voting record.

“It is an honor to have earned this recognition from Planned Parenthood,” said Sen. Tepler. “Securing the right to health care, including reproductive care, will always be one of my top priorities. I will continue to advocate on behalf of all Mainers, including the women who rely on access to these vital resources.”

Planned Parenthood scored the votes of Maine legislators on 12 bills, including seven bills that would restrict access to abortion and reproductive care. This year, in the face of massive federal cuts, the Legislature invested $6 million in Maine’s family planning services network, which provides essential care for patients, including birth control, cancer screenings and testing and treatment of STIs, regardless of ability to pay. Sen. Tepler also supported a new law that will protect prescribers of safe, effective medication abortion by allowing a provider to omit their name from prescription labels.

While in the Maine House of Representatives, Sen. Tepler earned a perfect voting score from Planned Parenthood in 2019, 2021, and 2022 — the year the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated the nationwide right to abortion.
