AUGUSTA – On Tuesday, March 11, Sen. Denise Tepler, D-Topsham, welcomed students from Morse High School’s Upward Bound Program to the Senate chamber. During their visit, the students had the opportunity to tour the State House and learn about the legislative process.

“It’s always a pleasure to welcome students from the district here in Augusta,” said Sen. Denise Tepler. “Upward Bound provides incredible opportunities for young people to prepare for college and their professional future. Their enthusiasm and curiosity was wonderful to see.”

The Upward Bound Program helps aspiring high school students get accepted to and successfully graduate from college. Upward Bound students are the first generation in their family to graduate from college and often come from low-income households. Upward Bound works to provide critical support and resources to students as they prepare for and enroll in college. This support is invaluable, as many Upward Bound students face challenges associated with poverty, being first generation college applicants or navigating college with a disability. Upward Bound is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
