Sen. Tim Nangle congratulates Dale F. Doughty of Pittston on confirmation as Commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation
AUGUSTA — Today, Sen. Tim Nangle, D-Windham, Senate chair of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee, congratulated Dale F. Doughty, of Pittston, on his confirmation as Commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation. The Maine Senate confirmed Doughty’s appointment during Tuesday’s legislative session.
“Transportation touches every part of our daily lives — from getting to work and school to supporting local businesses and keeping our communities connected,” said Sen. Nangle. “Dale brings steady leadership and a deep understanding of Maine’s transportation needs, and I’m confident he will help guide MDOT’s work to keep people safe and our infrastructure strong.”
Doughty brings more than 35 years of leadership experience in transportation, public works and environmental services. He has served as Acting Commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation since 2021 and previously held several senior roles within MaineDOT, including Deputy Commissioner and Director of Maintenance and Operations, where he managed a workforce of more than 1,200 employees and oversaw a budget exceeding $170 million annually. Earlier in his career, he also served in key leadership positions with the City of Lewiston and worked as a professional geologist in the private sector.
As Commissioner, Doughty will continue to oversee MDOT’s work maintaining and improving Maine’s roads, bridges, rail, ports and other transportation systems. The department plays a critical role in public safety, economic development and ensuring that rural and urban communities alike remain connected.
Sen. Nangle is serving his second term in the Maine Senate, representing Casco, Frye Island, Raymond, Windham and part of Westbrook. He serves as Senate chair of the Transportation Committee and sits on the Health and Human Services Committee.
