AUGUSTA — Sen. Mike Tipping, D-Orono, is pleased to announce that municipalities and non-profit organizations in Senate District 8 are recipients of a Community Action Grant award from the Community Resilience Partnership. The partnership is administered by the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future to help Maine communities reduce emissions and prepare for the effects of extreme weather events brought on by climate change.

The grant recipients and amounts are:

  • Howland-Enfield: $130,000
    • Funding for the “Laying the Groundwork for a Stronger Future” project
  • Lincoln: $55,00
    • Funding to conduct the Lincoln Assessment, including planning for stormwater management
  • Orono: $50,943
    • Funding to execute projects identified in the Municipal Building Energy Audit
  • Eastern Maine Development Corporation (Veazie): $22,482
    • Funding to help enroll municipalities in the Community Resilience Partnership

“From Howland and Enfield to Lincoln and Orono, communities are taking action to plan and prepare for increasingly severe weather in the district,” said Sen. Tipping. “However, cities and towns cannot go it alone — nor should they have to. These Community Action Grants are a part of the State’s commitment to helping Mainers before, during and after the floodwaters wash away bridges or wildfires burn businesses and homes. It is also a commitment to young Mainers with uncertain futures — including my own kids.”

Funding for the grants came from several sources, including measures passed by the Maine Legislature with Sen. Tipping’s support:

  • The Supplemental Budget that was passed by the Legislature in 2024 to increase community resilience and preparedness in the wake of the December 2023 and January 2024 storms;
  • Funds from the biennial budget authorized by the Legislature in 2023; and
  • A federal grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The grants in District 8 are part of a historic $8 million in funding for Community Resilience Partnership grants announced by Governor Janet Mills on May 1, 2025. This round of funding will support projects in 166 communities across Maine. For a full list of grant awardees, click here.

Sen. Mike Tipping is serving his second term in the Maine Senate. He serves as the Senate Chair of the Legislature’s Labor Committee and as a member of the Government Oversight and Taxation Committees.
