SENATE DEMOCRATS END SESSION WITH NEAR PERFECT VOTING ATTENDANCE RECORDS

AUGUSTA– Senate Democrats closed out the First Regular Session of the 127th Legislature with nearly all Senators receiving a perfect attendance score.

 

Eleven out of the fifteen Democratic Senators received a 100% voting record, meaning they voted on, or were excused from, all roll call votes, while four Senators received a 99% voting record.

“Voting is the most important responsibility of an elected official,” said Senate Democratic Leader Justin Alfond of Portland. “A strong voting record demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the hard working people of Maine.”

 

During the first session of the 127th Legislature the Senate voted to pass a $6.7 billion bipartisan budget that lowers the income tax for working families and tackles rising property taxes, while investing in public education and job training for Maine workers. Additionally, the budget protects seniors and public health, bolsters drug enforcement, and provides meaningful welfare reform.

 

Other accomplishments of the 127th Legislature include increasing the Maine State Grant for Maine college students, restoring $38 million dollars to fund energy efficiency programs for Maine people and businesses, and approving $100 million in bonds for roads and housing projects.

“At the end of the day, it is an honor to cast my vote on behalf of the people I represent in Augusta,” said Assistant Senate Democratic Leader Dawn Hill of York. “I am proud of the votes I have taken that make critical investments in our community, schools, and working people.”

 

The 127th Legislature adjourned sine die on July 16, concluding its work for the year and will return the in January 2016 for the Second Regular session of the 127th Legislature.
