SENATE UNANIMOUSLY SUPPORTS MILITARY RECRUITERS
Dems say, All points of view should be presented
AUGUSTA – In a unanimous vote, the Maine Senate passed a bill to allow military recruiters to wear uniforms during their student-recruiting activities in schools.
“We support the men and women who proudly serve our country wearing their military uniforms anywhere they want,” said Assistant Majority Leader Troy Jackson, D-Allagash.
The measure allows military recruiters to wear their uniforms when at public and charter high schools.
The federal No Child Left Behind Act provides military recruiters with the same access as other prospective employers or postsecondary institutions to high school students.
“It’s important for our schools to have an open policy on information,” said Senator Anne Haskell, D-Portland. “All points of view should be provided to our students.”
The bill, LD 1503 An Act To Ensure Student Access to Postsecondary Military Options, faces more vote in the House and the Senate.
