State employees union praises lawmaker for commitment to working families

AUGUSTA – Senator Linda Valentino of Saco has received a 100% rating from the Maine State Employees Union for her support of working families during the 126th Legislature.

“A strong economy begins with a strong workforce,” said Senator Valentino. “Maine people are dedicated hard-workers committed to making Maine an even greater place to live and work.”

Senator Valentino is one of 19 Democratic senators to receive a perfect score from the union, which represents more than 15,000 public and private sector workers throughout Maine.

During the 2013 legislative session, Senator Valentino supported the bipartisan, responsible budget crafted by the legislature, and voted to prevent a state shutdown by overriding the governor’s veto of the budget. Senator Valentino also supported bills to raise the minimum wage and increase access to affordable health care and low-cost prescription drugs, and opposed harmful so-called “right-to-work” bills, which would have weakened collective bargaining rights for Maine workers.

The Legislature will reconvene in January 2014.
