State employees union praises lawmaker for commitment to working families

AUGUSTA – Senators Justin Alfond and Anne Haskell of Portland have each received a 100% rating from the Maine State Employees Union for their support of working families during the 126th Legislature.

“Maine working families are the backbone of our economy,” said Senator Alfond. “I am proud to support our hardworking state employees. These men and women go to work every day with one goal: to strengthen our state by helping Maine people.”

Senators Alfond and Haskell are two of 19 Democratic senators to receive a perfect score from the union, which represents more than 15,000 public and private sector workers throughout Maine.

“The state workers I come in contact with on a regular basis deserve to have their values and their hard work supported by their elected officials,” said Senator Haskell.  It is truly a pleasure to be recognized on their behalf.”

During the 2014 legislative session, Senators Alfond and Haskell supported a one-time increase in the cost of living adjustment for state retirees and funding for merit and longevity pay for state workers. They both also supported the bipartisan, responsible budget crafted by the legislature, bills to increase access to affordable health care, and to support laid-off workers at The Maine Military Authority.

The Legislature will reconvene in January 2014.
