Sens. Daughtry, Vitelli welcome Bath, Mt. Ararat Middle School students to the Maine Senate
AUGUSTA — On Thursday, Sen. Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, and Sen. Eloise Vitelli, D-Arrowsic, welcomed Bath and Mt. Ararat Middle School students to the Senate Chamber. Truxton Neal of Harpswell, Leif Svenson of Harpswell, Ryan Coulon of Harpswell, and Bowman Wright of Harpswell attend Mt. Ararat Middle School. Dylyn Phillips of Wiscasset attends Bath Middle School. All of these students served as Honorary Pages.
“I was very happy to meet these students, many of them from Harpswell,” said Sen. Daughtry. “It is so important for people of all ages, even middle school students, to have opportunities to see our state government in action and understand how it works. One day, these students could become State Senators themselves!”
“I am grateful that Bath Middle School and Mt. Ararat Middle School have been generously allowing these students to serve as Honorary Pages,” said Sen. Vitelli. “They work and study hard inside the classroom, and they brought that same great attitude to the State House. It is clear that they have bright futures ahead of them.”
On session days, the Senate Secretary’s Office manages the Honorary Page Program in the Maine State Senate. Open to students in third grade through twelfth grade, Honorary Pages perform various duties such as delivering messages, distributing documents within the Senate Chamber, interacting with State Senators, and – most importantly – taking part in a real world, legislative learning experience. To sign up to serve as an Honorary Page, contact Alex Ferguson at (207) 287-1540 or Alex.Ferguson@legislature.maine.gov.
