Westbrook legislators welcome the Westbrook High School Chamber Singers, jazz students and top seniors to the State House

AUGUSTA – On Tuesday, Westbrook Reps. Morgan Rielly, Sue Salisbury and Drew Gattine, as well as Sens. Jill Duson, D-Portland, and Tim Nangle, D-Windham, welcomed the Westbrook High School Chamber Singers to the State House.

The Westbrook High School Chamber Singers performed the national anthem before the Maine Senate. Sen. Duson and Sen. Nangle also presented members of the Westbrook High School and Westbrook Middle School Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Bands with legislative sentiments. They also honored the top three highest achieving students of the Class of 2024, including Claire Filiatrault (Valedictorian), Hailey Rondeau (Salutatorian), and Ellyana Young (Class Essayist). 

“It was an honor to welcome the Westbrook High School Chamber Singers to the Maine State House this morning, many of whom have received awards for their outstanding musicianship by the Maine Music Educators’ Association State High School Instrumental Jazz Festival,” said Reps. Salisbury, Rielly and Gattine. “We are proud of the continued opportunities the Westbrook community provides for our students in the arts, and that we get to showcase the talents of these kids with our colleagues in the Legislature.”

“I’d like to thank the Westbrook High School Chamber Singers for their excellent rendition of the National Anthem,” said Sen. Duson. “I’d also like to recognize the musical excellence of the Westbrook Arts Department. Thank you for enriching our community with your extraordinary talents. I’m also glad we were able to recognize the academic achievements of the top students of the Class of 2024. May your future achievements inspire future generations to always strive for excellence.”

I am deeply appreciative of the talented students who share their exceptional gifts and serve as outstanding representatives of our community,” said Sen. Nangle. “I also extend my heartfelt thanks to the parents and guardians. Their unwavering support, from countless rides to and from rehearsals and performances to numerous other unseen acts of encouragement, plays a pivotal role in nurturing these young talents.”
