Work plan for state bridge and road projects unveiled
AUGUSTA – Democratic Sen. Linda Valentino of Saco is pleased to share the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for the communities of Senate District 31: Hollis, Limington, Old Orchard Beach, Saco, and parts of Buxton. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation projects throughout the state.
“I’m pleased to see the plan for work in our communities over the next few years and I look forward to seeing the results,” said Sen. Valentino. “Our transportation infrastructure is vital to Mainers – and our economy – and I will continue to support funding for these important projects.”
According to the MDOT, the work plan includes more than $2.2 billion worth of construction and maintenance, of which $520 million is scheduled for 497 capital projects in 2016. Included are projects for highways and bridges, transit (bus), passenger and freight railroad, aviation, ferries, ports and other marine facilities, and bicycle-pedestrian access.
Sen. Valentino stressed the importance of funding for the MDOT work plan and its investment in the area and the entire state. The following breakdown is what the planned capital and maintenance work will mean for SD31 in 2016:
Bridge Work (Other)
- Bradbury Bridge over North Branch Cooks Bridge on Routes 4 and 202.
Highway Light Capital Paving (LCP)
- As part of the Dayton Area LCP 2016: work on Merrill Hill Road, South Waterboro Road, Route 110, West Road, South Street, and Route 35 in Biddeford, Buxton, Dayton, Hollis, Lyman, Newfield, Parsonsfield, Shapleigh, Standish, and Waterboro.
Highway Preservation Paving
- On Route 11 in Limerick and Limington beginning at Prospect Street in Limerick and extending east 5.06 miles.
- On Route 98 in Old Orchard Beach and Saco as part of the Municipal Partnership Initiative beginning at Ross Road and extending east 0.88 miles.
Highway Safety and Spot Improvements
- On Route 1 in Biddeford and Saco beginning at South Street in Biddeford and extending east 2.22 miles.
Maintenance
- Ditching and replacing culverts at various locations in preparation for the Hollis area Light Capital Paving project on Route 4, Plains Road, Route 117, Route 35, Route 9, and Route 11 in Dayton, Hollis, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Limington.
- Ditching and replacing culverts in preparation of Denmark Area Light Capital Paving (LCP) project on Convene Road, Sebago Road, Route 117, Route 35, South Street, and South Waterboro Road in Baldwin, Bridgton, Hiram, Hollis, Lyman, Sebago, and Waterboro.
Other Work
- On Interstate 95, a joint Maine Turnpike Authority and MaineDOT scoping evaluation of existing traffic conditions and deficiencies in proximity of the Route 112 Interchange with particular attention to Routes 1, Interstate 195, Broadturn Road, Flag Pond Road and Haigis Parkway.
