…First-term state Sen. Dawn Hill, a former state representative, has been tapped by the Republican Party leadership to serve on the powerful Appropriations Committee, where she will act as lead Democrat. Meanwhile, state Rep. Windol Weaver, a Republican, has been selected to serve as the chairman of the Marine Resources Committee.
Hill and Weaver have been at the center of efforts to curb the Maine Turnpike Authority’s efforts to build a new toll plaza in York.
In her previous role serving in the legislature representing District 149, Hill was the prime sponsor of four legislative bills dealing with accountability and transparency of the Maine Turnpike Authority. The MTA is now required to post notice and hold public meetings regarding projects that they plan to proceed with in a community.
As chairman of the Government Oversight Committee, which evaluates government programs and their effectiveness, Hill also suggested that the MTA be investigated by the Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability for its lack of oversight, bonding practices, and questioned why excess revenues are not being delivered to the MDOT…
