Sen. Denise Tepler sworn into Maine Senate
AUGUSTA — Earlier today, Sen. Denise Tepler, D-Topsham, was sworn into the Maine Senate. Sen. Tepler was elected to her first term in the Senate in November.
Gov. Janet Mills administered the oath of office to Sen. Tepler and her Senate colleagues, all of whom have been elected to serve two-year terms. She represents the good people of Senate District 24, which includes all of Sagadahoc County and Dresden.
“I’m honored for the privilege granted to me by the people of Sagadahoc County and Dresden,” said Sen. Tepler. “I will continue to be a resource and will uplift the voices of the constituents in my district here in Augusta.”
Denise is a dedicated public servant with over two decades of experience in local office. First elected to the M.S.A.D #75 School Board in 1996, Denise served the towns of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell, and Topsham for six years. From 2014 to 2022, Denise served her hometown of Topsham as a State Representative. Denise and her husband Sheldon, raised their two sons and three daughters in Topsham, where all five attended Topsham Public Schools. Denise has served on the Boards of Maine Public Health Association’s Board and the Policy Committee as well as the MidCoast Hunger Prevention Program where she is also a volunteer and on two committees.
The swearing-in ceremony was held in the Senate Chamber, and was attended by family and friends of the Senators, as well as the general public. A livestream of the event was made available to the general public, and can be viewed online at http://legislature.maine.gov/senate/.
Of the 35 members of the Maine Senate, there are 20 Democrats and 15 Republicans. 15 are women and 20 are men. There are 7 new members of the Senate: 3 of which have recently served in the House of Representatives. 28 members are incumbents.
