State employees’ union praise lawmakers for commitment to working families

AUGUSTA – Democratic Senators John Cleveland of Auburn and Margaret Craven of Lewiston have each received 100% ratings from the Maine State Employees Union for their support of working families during the second regular session of the 126th Legislature.

They are among 19 Democratic senators to receive a perfect score from the union, which represents more than 15,000 public and private sector workers throughout Maine.

“State employees are on the frontlines every day providing essential services to the people of Maine,” Senator Cleveland said. “I am pleased to support their hard work and dedication to the Maine people they serve.”

During the 2014 legislative session, Senators Cleveland and Craven supported a one-time increase in the cost of living adjustment for state retirees and funding for merit and longevity pay for state workers and they also supported the bipartisan, responsible budget crafted by the Legislature, bills to increase access to affordable health care, and to support laid-off workers at the Maine Military Authority.

“It is always my pleasure to support the middle class and the working class,” Senator Craven said. “I would never cast a vote against their interests.”
