LINDA VALENTINO SWORN IN FOR SECOND TERM IN MAINE SENATE

AUGUSTA— Last week, Democratic Senator Linda Valentino of Saco was sworn in to office for her second term in the Maine State Senate for the 127th Legislative session. She will be representing Senate District 31, which includes Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Hollis, Limington, and part of Buxton.

 

“I am thrilled to be serving another term in the Senate,” said Senator Valentino. “Even with a divided government, I look forward to working with anyone who wants to help move our state in the right direction. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but together we can achieve great things.”

 

In the 126th Legislature, Senator Valentino served as Chair of the Judiciary Committee, Right to Know Committee, and Maine’s Workforce and Economic Future Committee as well as a member of the Transportation Committee.  While a member of the Senate, Valentino sponsored a wide range of legislation including bills to require insurance companies to cover hearing aids for young adults, to address military sexual assault, to help Maine businesses secure financing by extending and improving the successful Maine Seed Capital Tax Credit Program, and to protect Saco Bay from erosion caused by the Camp Ellis jetty.

 

Linda Valentino served four terms in the Maine House prior to being elected to the Maine Senate in 2012. She served on the Appropriations, Taxation, and Veterans and Legal Affairs Committees, in addition to the Joint Select Committee of Business Regulatory Fairness and Reform.

Valentino is a 1974 graduate of Thornton Academy. She has a B.A. in political science from the University of Southern Maine and is a certified paralegal. She is a former Commissioner of the Maine Liquor and Lottery Commission and was elected for three terms to the Saco City Council, where she served as Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Finance Committee. Valentino lives in Saco with her husband, Curtis Scamman. They have three children and two grandchildren.

 

Wednesday, December 3, 2014 marked the official start of the 127th Maine State Legislature however, the first day of the Regular Session is expected to begin on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

 

January 2 has been set as the cloture date for new bill ideas. Under Legislative rules, all new bill ideas must be submitted prior to that date.
